Mapping a Network Resource

Mapping a network drive for server 'emc.ne.tamu.edu'.

Note: If the user is trying to map from off-campus follow VPN setup directions first, then attempt to map a network drive.

When access to a network resource is needed on a frequent basis it becomes convenient to map a network drive. This network drive is called a network resource.

First open up 'My Computer'.

Click on 'Tools' and then 'Map Network Drive'.

Type the location of the network resource in the 'Folder' blank and choose a drive letter.

An example of a location might be '\\emc.ne.tamu.edu\home\username'.

Leave the 'Reconnect at logon' box checked if preferred. This setting will reconnect to the drive every time the user logs on. The alternative is to manually connect at each logon. If using a laptop it may be beneficial to not use this feature.

If the user is logging on from off-campus or outside the Nuclear Engineering domain, they need to click on the link 'different user name'.

Type 'ne\' and your NE username for 'User name'.

Enter your NE password for 'Password'.

Click 'OK'.

Click 'Finish'.
