How to Set Up PuTTY on Windows
Using PuTTY to run graphical applications in X-Win 32.
Start by opening PuTTY; be sure X-Win 32 is running as well.
If PuTTY prompts, as below, click 'Run'.
Type one of the following server names for Host Name:

Be sure SSH is selected, as below, and click 'Open'.
If prompted about the server's host key, click 'Yes'.
A prompt should appear, as below, 'login as:' type your NE username, hit 'Enter'.
At the Password prompt type your NE password.
A prompt should appear, as below, 'oak (~ )1: '.
Type 'setenv DISPLAY <machinename>.ne.tamu.edu:0.0'.
If you don't know your machine name use your IP address.
To get your IP address type 'who' at the prompt, as below.
Type the name of your application (here 'xemacs' is used as an example) at the prompt.
If/when prompted select 'Always do this' and click 'Yes' to allow connection.
Your application should appear, as below.
