The Stinson Scholarship Program is named after Ronald C. Stinson, a distinguished graduate of the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Texas A&M University. Scholarships are awarded at $1,250 per semester for up to 8 semesters, contingent upon academic performance and continued enrollment in the department. Thus, the total award can be $10,000. In addition, out-of-state tuition is waived for scholarship recipients, who are called Stinson Scholars. Stinson Scholars also have the opportunity for summer employment with one of the companies whose financial donations make the program possible.
Awards are based solely upon the following:
Academic achievement (as evidenced by transcripts, honors, and awards);
Academic potential (as evidenced by recommendations and standardized test scores);
Applicants for the Stinson Scholarship are automatically considered for other departmental scholarships, which typically range from $1000/year to $1500/year.

Late applications will be considered, depending on availability of funds. Anyone planning to be enrolled as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior in the Department of Nuclear Engineering during the next academic year is eligible to apply. This includes majors in Radiological Health Engineering as well as Nuclear Engineering. Applicants will be notified whether or not they received awards by April 15 or approximately six weeks following receipt of application, whichever is later.

A complete application includes the following:
A completed application form (download PDF), printed in black ink or typed;
Three letters of recommendation, sent directly to the above address, from people who can assess the abilities and/or character of the applicant;
Official transcripts from at least the most recent four years of formal education; and
Official SAT or ACT scores sent to Texas A&M University (not required if applicant has completed two or more years of an engineering or science curriculum at Texas A&M University at the time of application).
Each high school student should ask a high school counselor for an OFFICIAL copy of his or her transcript. This can be sent directly from the counselor to the above address or sent by the applicant along with the application form. College students should arrange for OFFICIAL transcripts to be sent to the above address.
