Texas A&M engineering honors Yelverton as an outstanding alum (04/02/02)

The Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University honored Jerry Yelverton, a 1973 nuclear engineering graduate and chairman and CEO of Entergy Nuclear, as an outstanding alumnus April 4 at an awards ceremony at the Briarcrest Country Club in Bryan, Texas.

Yelverton was one of three engineers as outstanding alumni in 2002. Yelverton earned a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering in 1973 and began his career with Bechtel Power Corp. In 1979, he joined the Entergy system, where he has held several management positions. He was named executive vice president and COO for Entergy Operations in 1996, and in 1999, was named chairman and CEO for Entergy Nuclear, the second largest operator of nuclear power plants in the U.S.

A long-time supporter of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and the Look College, Yelverton currently serves on the department's Industrial Advisory Council. He also played a major role in the department's conference, "America's Energy Challenge: The Nuclear Answer," in November 2001.
